Voice Assistant Security & Privacy
May 1, 2026 · Voice Assistant, Privacy, Security, IoT
Measuring, attacking, and defending modern voice assistant ecosystems, from traffic fingerprinting to scalable policy analysis and deployable defenses.
This project groups my work on Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, and the broader voice app ecosystem. The through-line is simple: understand how these platforms leak information, measure how platform policies are enforced in practice, and build defenses that can work in realistic deployments.
Representative work in this area includes:
- Voice command fingerprinting across multiple voice assistant platforms
- Large-scale policy analysis of advertising in Alexa skills
- PriVA-C, a practical defense against traffic-analysis attacks on voice assistants
Across these papers, the focus has been on connecting system measurements, privacy risks, and concrete mitigations rather than treating voice assistants as abstract black boxes.
